Training and EducationTRAININGWildfire and Forest Resource Management TrainingThe Division of Forestry is committed to ensuring that adequate training in the use of prescribed fire and wildfire management is provided, so that Florida remains a leader in protecting and managing tremendous forest resources.
Florida Fire Service and NWCG Instructors may attain endorsement in the State of Florida to teach basic National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) courses. More about instructor endorsement. Prescribed Fire CertificationFlorida, more than any other state, relies on the use of prescribed fire to help manage its many complex and varied ecosystems. Part of our ability to continue to use this management tool is the excellent training and cooperation that occurs within the state.Prescribed Fire Training, as well as Florida certification for experienced burners, is available through Hillsborough Community College's Certified Burner Program. National Resource Deployment Established through the Cooperative Fire Protection agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, the Division of Forestry is responsible for coordinating wildland fire and emergency resource deployments for non-federal agencies in the State of Florida through the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a total systems approach for responding to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, floods, hurricanes, spilling of hazardous materials, and other natural or human-caused incidents.
The resource ordering system is a national system that identifies specific resource needs and uses "availability lists" at the state, regional and national levels to fill the resource needs for NIMS. Minimum training qualifications are coordinated by the Fire Standards Administrator. Additional Training Links:
