All formal organized group activities, including picnicking, trail use or overnight camping, require a State Forest Use Permit. To obtain a State Forest Use Permit you can call the Recreation/Visitors Center at (352) 754-6896 and we will assist you with your plans.
Site Name Features Facilities

Silver Lake Recreation Complex:

Silver Lake
Campground
Campsites spread out under the open shade of large oak trees. Located on the northern end of Silver Lake on a gently sloping grassy area, most sites have a view of the open water.

- 23 campsites with electricity and water
- launch site for canoes and small boats
- nature trail and boardwalk
- pets allowed

Cypress Glen Campground Campsites sit high above Silver Lake under the shade of oak and pine trees. 

- 34 electric campsites with water
- restrooms and showers
- fishing
- pets are allowed.

Crooked River Campground*

Campsites are surrounded with a natural screen of understory vegetation. A staircase provides access to the Withlacoochee River. 

- 26 non-electric campsites
- no pets allowed.
*NOTE: The Crooked River Campground is currently closed for renovation. It is scheduled to reopen on/about November 1, 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Hog Island Recreation Area:

Campsites are screened from each other with natural understory vegetation. - 20 non-electric campsites
- dump station
- no pets allowed
- canoe launch
- campsite with water is available near the river for campers arriving by canoe

River Junction Recreation Area:

River Junction Campground

Campground is located at the junction of the Little Withlacoochee River and the Withlacoochee River at the southern end of Silver Lake.

- 20 non-electric campsites
- boat and canoe launch
- no pets allowed.

Croom Motorcycle Area:

Buttgenbach Mine Campground The Croom Motorcycle Area is 2600-acres. Campers may ride from the campground into the surrounding off-road riding area - 50 campsites with electricity
- no pets allowed

Gatehouse is located behind the Best Western Hotel at Exit 301 off I-75, and is open 7 days a week from 8 am- 5 pm

Holder Mine Recreation Area:

Holder Mine Campground Campsites are shaded by live and turkey oaks. A dump station is available. This campground is open 7 days a week and is popular with hunters during archery and small game seasons. - 27 campsites with electricity
- pets are allowed.

Mutual Mine Recreation Area:

Mutual Mine Campground Campsites in a horseshoe formation next to a picturesque, rain-filled lake which was formerly a mine pit. This campground does not have showers. - 13 non-electric campsites
- no pets allowed

A separate youth group area is located nearby, by reservation. Call 352/ 754-6896

Tillis Hill Recreation Area

Campground and Dining Hall
Reservations are required (Call 352/ 344-4238) for Tillis Hill camping, horse stalls & tie-outs, dining hall and pavilion/BBQ.
Two of the twenty stalls are designed for stallions. A communal corral is also available.
- 28 horse stalls
- 37 campsites with electricity
   and water hook-ups
- No pets allowed

NOTE: ALL HORSES MUST HAVE PROOF OF CURRENT NEGATIVE COGGINS TEST RESULTS WHEN ON STATE LANDS

Hunt Camps

Open only during designated hunts for licensed hunters. Overnight and permit camping are allowed at designated areas only.
