State Forest Fees and Information

Fees in effect as of March 2, 2009

hikingFlorida has long been recognized as having one of the finest and most diversified state forest systems in the United States. Florida’s state forests offer a wide variety of natural, recreational and cultural opportunities for visitors.

Because of the diversity of activities and resources, it is highly recommended that visitors contact the state forest beforehand to clarify any reservation requirements, fees or other considerations that may apply.

Entrance and Day Use Fees

Day Use is from sunrise to sunset

Vehicle passengers, walk-ins, bicyclists, and equestrians

State Forest Use Authorizations
In addition to any associated fees, a no-cost State Forest Use Authorization may be required. Fill out an Authorization form for:
  • All formal group activities (school, church, family, and youth groups) which include picnicking, trail use or overnight camping.
  • All commercial use, including tour guides, sales and rentals, and special events.
  • Some state forests require an authorization for primitive camp sites.
How Do I Get One?
Contact the State Forest you plan to visit to obtain a State Forest Use Authorization.
Some state forest sites have day use fees. Please contact the state forest you plan to visit to verify sites requiring day use fees.
  • Entrance Fee for designated areas is $2.00 per person, children under 6 admitted free.
  • Deposit fee in the honor fee envelopes daily, and display the tear-away tab on the vehicle windshield or rear-view mirror.
  • An Annual Day Use Entrance Pass (for up to 8 persons) is available.

Camping Fees

Camping fees can be paid by using the honor fee system.
State Forest Use Authorizations are required for some campsites and can be obtained at the state forest office where you plan to visit.

Annual Passes and Fees

Purchase An Annual Day Use Entrance Pass * Members of the Friends of Florida State Forests support organization can purchase the Annual Day Use Pass for a discounted fee of $20.00.

Annual Day Use Entrance Pass:

  • Cost: $30*, valid for one year
  • Unlimited number of visits
  • Allows the driver and up to seven passengers entry into any Florida State Forest where a fee is routinely required
  • $1.00 for each additional person

Annual Off Highway Vehicle Fees

Off-highway motorcycles (OHM’s), all-terrain vehicles (ATV's), and recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs) are prohibited on State Forests except designated areas at Tate’s Hell State Forest and Withlacoochee State Forest. Annual permits are required for each OHM and ATV operating in the designated OHV area.

State Forest Rules

In keeping with its mission to protect and manage Florida's forest resources for the present and future enjoyment of all Floridians, and to provide the greatest opportunity for a quality recreational experience, the Florida Division of Forestry has developed rules which apply to all visitors.

General

  • Possession of alcoholic beverages is prohibited where posted.
  • Off-highway motorcycles (OHM’s) and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are prohibited, except as noted under 'Off Highway Vehicle Fees'.
  • Removal or destruction of cultural artifacts, plants or animals is prohibited (with the exception of legal game during scheduled hunts).
  • Please take all garbage with you when you leave the forest if a container is not available in the area that you visit.
  • LEASHED PETS are welcome on most state forests in designated areas. Please check with the state forest you plan to visit.
  • ALL HORSES must have proof of current negative Coggins Test results when on state lands.
  • HUNTING and FISHING in state forests are regulated by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, according to published seasons, license requirements, etc. Hunting requires a license and permit and is allowed only during established seasons.

On the Road

  • Speed limit on all roads within the forest is 30 mph unless posted otherwise.
  • Drive on designated roads only.
  • Do not obstruct roads, gates or fire lines.

In and Around Waterways

  • Swim at your own risk. Where posted, swim only within designated areas
  • No rope swings, or diving from stream banks, or trees.
  • For safety reasons, glass containers are not allowed on any state forest waterways.
