Relocation and Construction Trust Fund
The Division of Forestry has tower sites, work centers
and district offices that have become obsolete and are offered
for sale through a sealed bid process. Most of these facilities
were once in rural areas, but are now too close to urban
areas to serve the purpose for which they are intended.
The Department may sell these sites but Florida law mandates
that proceeds from the sale must be deposited into the
Relocation and Construction Trust Fund for purchase of
land and construction of a facility to replace the disposed
facility or other sites that improve our wildfire response
time or service to the public.
The sites offered for sale range in size from less than
an acre to as large as 20 acres. Sites may be vacant or
improved with a variety of buildings and, in some cases,
a fire tower. Typical improvements are homes, office buildings,
and garage/maintenance buildings.
When sites are identified for disposal, the Division
of Forestry will post information on this website and
place "For Sale" signs on the property. Information
to be posted on the web includes: general property information,
appraisals, environmental site assessments, asbestos surveys,
and bidding information. Since the disposal process can
take six months or more, information will be added as
it becomes available. The Division does not normally advertise
the sale of these properties in local newspapers.
Parties who may be interested in these types of properties
should periodically check this website for listings of
new properties and if you are interested in receiving
a bid package when a property is put out for bid, please send an
email with your name, address, phone number, and the specific
site or sites you are interested in.
Interested In Purchasing A Fire Tower?
Fire Tower Invitation to Bid:
Towers will be posted here when bids are being accepted. |
While most sites are sold with the
tower in place, some purchasers of tower sites do not wish
to retain the tower. In these instances, we provide the
Tower Only list to the purchaser to make separate arrangements
to dispose of the tower after their purchase has been completed.
The Tower Only list is also provided to DOF Districts who
are disposing of towers off of lands that are not being
offered for sale.
The bid package will include all the terms and conditions
of the sale, but perspective bidders need to be aware that
the minimum acceptable bid for any property will be the
Division's appraised value plus expenses
related to the sale.
Please send an email asking to be added to the "Tower Only" list.
