Spot Weather Forecasts Instructions

General Information

The spot weather forecasts produced by the Division of Forestry are intended for use on prescribed fires and wildfires. These forecasts do not replace the general forecasts produced by the National Weather Service, but are intended to augment their forecasts. Forecasts currently cover the period from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Division of Forestry uses information from the National Weather Service (Model Output Statistics products) to produce these forecasts.

Input Form

  • Enter name and company information
  • Select forecast location
     - Enter latitude/longitude in decimal degrees
     - Or, enter township, section and range
  • Enter on-site weather observation
    - Enter the temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction
      along with the time of the observation
    - User can specify one or all of the weather variables

Forecast

  • Forecasts provide hourly temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction
  • Data in red indicate potentially severe fire weather conditions
